Designing with Décollage Workshop

Designing with Décollage Workshop

with Guest Instructor-Christine Dumont

, Aug 17 – Aug 18, 2019, 10:00am – 5:00pm

Mixing additives into polymer clay can affect not only its appearance but also its properties. This workshop introduces you to an additive that will transform the way you work with clay. Enriched, the material responds more effusively and creatively to a lighter touch that allows you to focus on design.

Creating a veneer is only a first step in designing a finished piece. Once you have a decorated sheet, how do you turn it into a finished piece? How do you approach the other aspects of the composition such as shape, edges and findings to maximise impact?

This workshop focuses on designing a finished piece, giving you tips to consider to help you make your own design choices.

Specifically, you will explore how to:

– do “décollage”, a technique which creates patterns by tearing and rubbing away previously applied clay,

– liberate the magic of color using opaque and translucent clays,

enhance the impact of your compositions by hamonising your veneers to the shape of your piece and edge finishing techniques,

complete the piece with just the right findings.
